Eugene specialises in criminal defence with a particular focus on jury and judge alone trials. He regularly appears unled for people charged with serious offences in the Local, District and Children’s Court and accepts briefs to appear in all Australian courts and tribunals including regional and remote locations across New South Wales and interstate.

Eugene regularly defends clients who have been charged with Commonwealth criminal offences including money laundering, drug importation, child exploitation and other matters. He also regularly defends clients charged with serious State offences, including drug supply and manufacture offences, sexual assault, fraud, serious assaults, robberies and property offences.

Eugene has conducted jury and judge alone trials unled in the District Court and has appeared unled in the Supreme Court and as junior counsel in the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal.

Prior to being called to the Bar, Eugene was a Solicitor Advocate at Legal Aid NSW and an accredited specialist in criminal law.

Eugene also has experience practising in civil and traffic law with the Mid North Coast Community Legal Centre, and 2 years’ experience in general law practice including family law matters.

As a Solicitor Advocate with Legal Aid NSW, Eugene appeared in a number of jury and judge alone trials (involving both State and Commonwealth Criminal law matters) in the District Court of New South Wales and District Court sentences, instructed by solicitors within Legal Aid NSW, and also appeared in a large number of complex Local and Children’s Court hearings.

While Eugene’s practice is predominantly in criminal law, he also accepts briefs to appear for clients who were wrongfully prosecuted and appears on behalf of those clients in intentional tort proceedings including claims against the State of NSW for malicious prosecution, unlawful arrest, assault and battery and accepts briefs to appear in coronial inquests, inquiries and High Risk Offender applications.

Eugene has a keen interest in continuing professional development and has presented at the criminal law State-wide conference for Legal Aid NSW and regularly presents to the City of Sydney and other regional Law Societies.
