James accepts briefs in all areas of law, and has a particular expertise in criminal law.
James has appeared unled as counsel in numerous jury trials including for offences of murder, multi-complainant child sexual assault, historical and non-historical sexual assault, production of child abuse material, persistent sexual abuse, aggravated robbery, and matters involving serious domestic and personal violence. He has also appeared in many other homicide cases, dangerous driving causing death cases, complex fraud cases, corporate crime, and major drug crime (in both the Commonwealth and State jurisdictions).
James has appeared in many pre-recorded hearings in respect of vulnerable witnesses, including children.
James has appeared in the Court of Criminal Appeal and has a strong interest in appellate law.
In addition to his trial and appellate practice, James has significant experience appearing in Supreme, District and Local Court bail applications, conviction and sentence appeals, summary hearings, sentences, breach proceedings, youth matters and mental health and fitness proceedings.
