Leanne Connell

Leanne began her legal career with the Aboriginal Legal Service, working in regional New South Wales, including Griffith, Dubbo, Wagga and surrounding communities. This early experience fostered a strong connection to regional practice and First Nations communities, as well as a commitment to representing socially disadvantaged clients. She later joined Legal Aid, where her practice included roles as a trial advocate running jury trials and work in specialist jurisdictions such as the High-Risk Offenders Unit, State Parole Authority, Children’s Court and the Walama List, a diversionary program for First Nations defendants. Across these roles, Leanne developed significant experience in both trial and sentencing work, earning positive judicial feedback for her confident and courageous advocacy.

Leanne engages deeply with clients and presents their stories with clarity and humanity, alongside detailed legal argument. Her breadth of experience across metropolitan and regional courts has equipped her with a versatile and practical approach to litigation.

Leanne’s interest is in building a diverse practice with a strong focus on advocacy, including trials and complex sentencing matters.

Outside of work, Leanne enjoys travel, especially off-the-beaten-path destinations, and following a wide range of sports, particularly cricket.
