Lou Lungo

Barrister · Samuel Griffith Chambers

Lou is an experienced criminal law barrister whose career spans both private practice and senior prosecutorial work. He was first called to the Bar in 1989. Then spent almost three decades as a Crown Prosecutor in the Supreme Court.

‘Having worked on both sides of the courtroom, I bring a balanced and informed perspective to my cases.’

During his time with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, he was appointed as a Supreme Court Arraignments Crown, where he managed and prepared a large volume of serious indictable matters, including numerous murder trials. This experience equipped him with a detailed understanding of the Crown case in complex prosecutions, as well as strategic considerations that arise in serious criminal litigation.

Since returning to the private Bar, Lou has maintained a broad criminal practice across all jurisdictions, appearing in matters ranging from Local Court proceedings to significant District and Supreme Court trials. He has a particular interest in serious criminal work, including homicide matters, and draws on his prosecutorial background to approach cases with thorough preparation and a clear strategic focus.

Lou is a hardworking and direct advocate, who combines practical judgment with a strong commitment to his clients. Approachable and reliable, he values clear communication with both clients and instructing solicitors. In court, he relishes the challenge of cross-examination and is recognised for his effective and confident advocacy.

Outside the law, Lou has a longstanding passion for music, having performed in blues bands for over three decades. He is also a qualified yoga teacher, a discipline in which he continues to maintain a regular personal practice.
