Todd Pickering

During his policing career, Todd worked as a detective and spent his final years prosecuting matters, experiences that gave him a deep understanding of criminal investigations, evidencegathering and courtroom advocacy. Since coming to the Bar, Todd has acted in both prosecutorial and defence roles but now practises solely for the defence.

Todd’s practice is centred on trials, particularly complex and demanding indictable matters. He regularly appears in lengthy jury trials, most often involving serious sexual offence allegations, including multicomplainant and historical matters. In recent years, he has conducted multiple trials running several months in duration and is increasingly briefed in largescale, factheavy proceedings, including significant fraud matters.

As an advocate, Todd is known for being calm, approachable, highly prepared, and puts clients at ease, while he remains focused, disciplined and effective before a jury. He is particularly skilled in jury advocacy, including closing addresses.

Todd is motivated by the realworld impact of criminal proceedings and finds the work most rewarding when he is able to secure outcomes that materially improve clients’ lives. Outside practice, he enjoys travel and maintaining an active focus on health and fitness.
